Loose skin can be caused by a variety of factors but the primary causes are premature ageing, weight loss and pregnancy. Loose skin can appear anywhere on the face and body but common areas are the neck, arms and abdomen.
As we age our skin loses its elasticity and plumpness and can begin to "sag". Factors that can accelerate this process include sun damage, stress and lifestyle factors such as smoking. Extreme weight loss and pregnancy can also cause the skin to hang loose.
Loose skin can occur on both the face and body. Common areas affected are the neck (known as "turkey neck"), arms (known as "bingo wings") and the abdomen, following weight loss or pregnancy.
Anyone can get loose skin but it is more common in women. Many women have loose skin on their abdomens post pregnancy and saggy skin on the arm or neck is a common factor of ageing.
